Artificial Immunology for computer viruses |
With increased global interconnectivity, organizations must protect their systems from intrusion and computer-virus attacks. Current antivirus and network intrusion detection (ID) solutions can become overwhelmed by the burden of capturing and classifying new viral stains and intrusion patterns. To overcome this problem, a self-adaptive distributed agent-based defense mechanism based on the strategies of biological immune systems has been developed within a hierarchical layered architecture.
A prototype interactive system as been designed, implemented in Java, and tested. The results validate the use of a distributed-agent biological-system approach toward the computer-security problems of virus elimination and intrusion detection. [1]
Editor's Note: Artificial Immune Systems (AIS) are adaptive systems, inspired by theoretical immunology and observed immune functions, principles and models, which are applied to problem solving [2].
